Join us for the “Expressions in Plein Air” Competition Show that opens this Saturday, September 7th. Plein Air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Their desire to paint light and its changing, ephemeral qualities, coupled with the creation of transportable paint tubes and box easel - the precursor to the plein air easels of today – allowed artists the freedom to paint “en plein air,” which is the French expression for “in open air.” Awards Presentation 5:30PM during reception only for competition. Also, that evening, a Clay & Paint Exhibit will be featured. Artists Thomas Sellas, Mitra McLaughlin and Freddy Santana are Elk Grove Unified School District Art teachers who continue creating works of art using paint and clay. Inspirations gleaned from campus life, nature, and personal experiences manifests itself and is transformed into these unique expressions. There will be an artist talk at 6PM The Center is located at 9020 Elk Grove Boulevard Suite 101, 95624. Business hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11AM-5PM and Sunday 11AM-4PM.
